Dr. Yang, Pan-Chyr Gene Found to Reduce Invasion of Cancer Cells, May be Useful for Lung Cancer Therapy.
The occurrence of many cancers is closely related to the mutation of a tumor suppressor gene called p53. Normal p53 inhibits cancer cell proliferation and induces cancer cell death. Taiwan researchers have now discovered that normal p53 also reduces the movement of cancer cells to parts of the body distant from the primary cancer, thus reducing the possibility of secondary cancer growth. Their research was published online in the prestigious scientific journal, Nature Cell Biology on May 17.

Dr. Wen-Hung Chung and Dr. Yuan-Tsong Chen Unravel the mechanism underlying massive skin cell death in severe drug hypersensitivity.
A team led by Dr. Yuan-Tsong Chen shows that an unusual form of granulysin secreted from the cytototic T lymphocytes and natural killer cells is largely responsible for the cell death. The work is of particular interest as the similar mechanisms may be applicable to other immune cell-mediated diseases, such as graft-versus-host disease.
