RESEARCH

The primary interest in my laboratory is to study viral hepatitis and pathogenesis of emerging infectious diseases. We have been focusing on human hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and enterovirus 71 (EV71), using both animal models and tissue culture system. In the HBV projects, we are investigating the trafficking of HBV capsids, and the involvement of host cellular machinery. We are also testing a 「charge balance hypothesis」 which could explain HBV behavior in capsid assembly, disassembly, stability, RNA encapsidation, and DNA replication. In the HCV and EV71 projects, we will try to establish small animal models for pathogenesis studies. These studies are being conducted with colleagues with different expertise.

本實驗室的研究方向為探討病毒性肝炎與新興流行性感染疾病的致病機制。著重於利用動物模型與組織細胞培養的方法,從事人類的B型肝炎病毒(human hepatitis B virus, HBV)、C型肝炎病毒(hepatitis C virus, HCV)與腸病毒71型(enterovirus 71)的研究。例如探討B型肝炎病毒的顆粒 (capsids) 如何利用一些宿主細胞內的機器(cellular machinery)在細胞內移動。我們也以 」charge balance hypothesis」來解釋B型肝炎病毒的各種行為。例如C型肝炎病毒與腸病毒71型的研究方面,我們以建立小動物的模型來提供致病機轉的研究。我們將透過跨領域的結合與不同專長的合作來達成研究的目標。
