Job Environment

The set-up at the Institute of Biomedical Sciences (IBMS), Academia Sinica is akin to that at the National Institutes of Health in the U.S.. One of the aims of IBMS is to provide a favorable research climate and in-depth training of scientists interested in biomedical sciences. Our computational biophysics group is part of the Structural Biology program which includes protein and peptide design, NMR, X-ray, optical spectroscopy and bioinformatics.

Living expenses
Housing:
You may stay at the Activity Center
(which is a 3- 5 minutes walk from IBMS)
for NT$15,000/month - this includes room service.
Alternatively, you may choose to rent:
post-doctoral fellows have recently rented
a single room (~150 sq. ft) for NT$4,000/month and
a 3-bedroom apartment (~800 sq. ft) for NTD$11,000/month.
Food:
For meals at the activity center, lunch costs ~NT$40 and dinner costs ~NT$100-250.
Transportation:
The bus fare is around NT$15- 30 (depending on the distance).
The cab fare starts at NT$80 + NT$5 for each additional 1/4 km.
Social Activities
Facilities:
out-door tennis courts, table tennis tables, volley-ball courts gymnasium housing tennis, badminton and basketball courts, exercise machines and a swimming pool.
Vacations:
Twice a year, IBMS arranges for all its members to go on vacation to one of Taiwan's famous "tourist" locations (which you can vote for).
"Wei-Ya":
This is a traditional Taiwanese custom, whereby the employer (IBMS) treats all employees to an annual dinner just before Chinese New Year.
