My Linux Workstation Plaything.

New news, well I've now managed to add a Chinese Linux machine to my home computer set for the wife. This is also based on a Piii 500 with Linux 2.4.18 (RedHat 8.0) and she uses it for internet and also some small office stuff while I use it for the CD-RW and also for testing some network stuff out.I. Anyway the current spec's are below.

My play/test machine

The machines main role is to run the CD-RW and also to run the web cam. Linux will do CD-RW work very well but the adaptec software is nicer and the web cam won't work under Linux at all. I'm looking forward to the day that Logitech opens up the specs. The wife seems happy with the Chinese Linux. Interestingly enought she took to Bluecurve (KDE 3.0) like a fish to water and within about an hour she had already changed all her backgrounds etc etc to how she liked it. She has no problem with openoffice instead of MS Office and also with mozilla instead of internet explorer. The epson works a treat and both the printing and scanning is supported under linux.

Anyway with the SGI O2 in the office running Irix and fvwm2 with OpenGL and these machines at home running Linux, fvwm2 and Mesa-3D. I'm a very happy person. I just wish the O2 would run Linux instead of Irix......

The Linux machine is amazing and continues to become more and more useful.
