We are honored to receive the Career Development Award from Academia Sinica to investigate how immune modulation triggers heart regeneration and how to harness macrophage function in cardiac repair and regeneration. Previously, we found that poly I:C administration modulates inflammatory cell dynamics and triggers heart regeneration in medaka, a teleost that originally could not regenerate their hearts. Among cardiac immune cells, macrophage seems to play a key role in this process. In this project, we plan to investigate the mechanisms underlying poly I:C-induced neovascularization, cardiac muscle replenishment, and fibrotic scar resolution, and seek the opportunity of translating the knowledge into therapeutics.
