Targeting ASIC3 for pain, anxiety, and insulin resistance.

Dr. Chen, Chih-Cheng
Pharmacol Ther., Dec 30, 2011

Acid-sensing ion channel 3 (ASIC3) is a sensitive pH sensor predominantly expressed in nociceptors and responds to mild extracellular acidification. Therefore, targeting ASIC3 as an analgesic for pain associated with tissue acidosis is of great interest. Selective drugs targeting ASIC3 have been effective in relieving acid-evoked pain in animal models and human studies.
